Nord 262 / Mohawk 298
Pressurised version of the Max Holste 250 Super Broussard, the 262 flew for the first time on the 24th of December 1962, powered by two Turboméca Bastan turboprops. The first production aircraft were designated 262B, equipped with 1,080 hp Bastan VIC engines, the four machines that were built were delivered to Air Inter in 1964.
The 262A, paradoxically, flew after the B version and 69 machines were built. They were delivered to companies like Tunis Air, Air Ceylon and Japan Domestic airlines. Some were also operated by the French army.
The civilian improved 262C version, (10 built) and military 262D, (24 built) were delivered from 1970 to 1977. They were equipped with 1,145 hp Bastan VIIC engines driving three bladed propellers.
Nine 262A were upgraded in 1975 by Mohawk Air Services for Allegheny Airlines. They received 1,180 hp PT6A-45 turboprops and upgraded electronics. Designated Mohawk 298, those machines are recognisable to their five bladed propellers.
